Let's Play: Facilitating interactive play skills in children with Autism. Autism impacts on the child's development in three key areas i.e. social skills, communication and behaviour. Deficits in all of these areas will impact on the development of play; and, in turn, impairment in play skills will also impact on social development, communication and other skills related to cognition. This resource is designed for use by parents, caregivers, teachers and others working with children with Autism. It is hoped that the resource will provide an understanding of the importance of play skills, the development of play and how Autism impacts on a child's ability to play. This book will also detail strategies for enhancing interactive play, provide guidelines for assessing a child's current level of play, outline how to plan for play and provide examples of play themes and routines.
