This book is definitely not a chronological history of Bundaberg. As the title suggests, the content is a selection of the 'historical notes' of the author. However a very fine, if somewhat lose, line of continuity can be found by those seeking such a thread. The explorers, sheepmen, cattlemen, the murder of Blaxland; Bundaberg's founders John and Gavin Steuart; sugar and commerce, with men answering to the names of Gibson, Young, Reddan or Buss. Even the lightning Tooth Extractor came to Bundaberg to play his role in the city's history. Where else but in Bundaberg, would you find a man refusing to leave his flooded home until he had fed his chooks? The aspirations, toil, laughter and tears of Bundaberg's early settlers can be found in these pages.
