Harry Haxton will turn off his kidney dialysis machine on 31 August and within 7-10 days he will be dead. On 19 August Harry will launch his third book "Life Support or Life Sentence" at the Tatt Club in Brisbane. Harry employed his old friend, cartoonist, Brian Doyle to effectively characterise his sense of humour while discussing the serious issues around kidney disease and death. His book, while funny in some cases, highlights the differences between life and a good life and discusses the rational decision-making process required to end that life under your own control. While marriage equality has demanded a plebiscite why will it take this so-called advanced country another plebiscite or years of procrastination to come to the conclusion of assisted suicide or death with dignity. Why does Harry have to go through the process of Advance Medical Directives and a longer than necessary death process to achieve this rational end.
